Orthotics

ICB orthotics ( shoe insoles) are a reasonably priced option to corret foot pronation and supination which occasionally can be a cause of biomechanical problems such as back, knee and ankle pain for example. Often foot posture varies from one foot to another and ICB orthotics can be custom moulded to take this into acount. They are available in different densities to suit different weights and uses and come in either two third or full lengths. The two third length orthitics are for everyday use and are more easily changed from shoe while the full length ones are used in walking or working boots and shoes. Ocasionally they can be fitted in trainers however foot posture here is better corrected by purchasing trainers from a specialist store which asesses foot biomechanics and can supply a suitalbe corrective trainer. Orthotics can also be adapted to correct specific problems such as leg length differences and bunions for example but although they can be pruchased separately, they are better fitted in conjunction with chiropractic care. Pelvic Girdle Pain During Pregnancy

Called by different names: Pregnancy-Related Pelvic Girdle Pain (PRGP), Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD) or more currently described as Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP), can affect up to 50% of women during pregnancy and/ or after birth. While 25% of women can experience serious pain, 8% experience severe disability. Recent research may show persistent PGP a major individual public health issue up to 14 months postpartum.

During pregnancy the body produces a hormone called relaxin, which softens the ligaments in the pelvis and joints to help the baby pass through the pelvis during birth. This in turn can cause mechanical joint problems as changes or asymmetry in normal movement occurs. Although not harmful to the baby it can cause moderate to severe pain in the pubic bone area as well as pain in the hips, lower back, buttocks, groin or inner thighs. Symptoms can be aggravated also by posture as the baby increases weight making it difficult walking, climbing stairs and can often disturb sleep when turning over in bed.

Chiropractic Treatment can be effective in returning joints and muscles in and around the pelvis to their normal function. The specific low force adjustments of McTimoney form of chiropractic make them comfortable to receive and well suited during or after pregnancy. Please note that purely as a precortion, treatment is not possible in the fist trimester.
